I believe performance evaluations are integral to a good performance management structure and to helping our individual team members grow. I find that we, as managers, often fall into the same pit falls (halo effect, receny issues, only addressing issues once a year) so I try to talk through those and highlight why performance evaluations are important, what should and should not be in performance evaluations, the importance of using self evaluations and how to develop SMART goals so the basic learning objectives I cover are:

1) Better understanding of the crucial role performance evaluations play in performance management;

2) Tools to draft a performance evaluation that provides meaningful and constructive feedback;

3) Develop SMART goals that enhance your staff’s skills, motivation, and success!
