This program will explore how the personal, professional, and societal challenges of the last 1.5 years have physically and emotionally impacted women of public defense. We will discuss the mind-body connection of stress, vicarious trauma, and moral injury and provide concrete ways to ameliorate its effects. We will share our stories in small groups and learn how to cultivate resiliency.
  1. Discuss and explore the emotional and physical impact of the last 18 months of extreme upheaval in the personal, professional, and societal realms. Participants can share their emotional and physical experiences in the chat box.
  2. Different Spaces & Common Themes: Ruth and I will share a brief story on this time’s emotional and physical impact on us and then open breakout rooms so participants can share in small groups. When they return, we will ask them to put their common themes in the chat box.
  3. We will then discuss the mind-body connection of stress, vicarious trauma, and moral injury. We’ll examine how the last 18 months convergence and persistence of stress, vicarious trauma, and moral injury has overwhelmed us.
  4. Moving into resiliency. We will provide different methods and modalities to combat the effects of stress, compassion fatigue, and moral injury so participants can practice moving into and remaining resilient in their daily lives.
  5. Provide participants with a self-compassion inventory so they can self-check and reflect. Provide writing prompts. Provide a reading list.
