This session will not be recorded.

Even though the field of public defense is about working for justice, we know too well that the field is not exempt from oppressive beliefs, acts, and comments.

How do we live our values of working for justice, and maintain relationships, in the face of expressions of oppression, such as racism, sexism, and other '-isms' that maintain systems of power. In this interactive workshop, participants will:
  • explore how white supremacy, an overarching form of oppression, is infused in American culture and begin to envision an alternative to white supremacy culture
  • strengthen communication skills, specifically tools of non-violent communication
  • develop and practice strategies for interrupting oppression
