Deanna “Dee” Glickman began as a public defender in Robeson County, NC as a Gideon’s Promise Fellow in 2015. There, they represented adult and juvenile charged with misdemeanors and felonies. Dee pioneered a project representing people being jailed for not paying fines and court costs. In 2018, Dee joined the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Baltimore City first representing clients charged with misdemeanors in District and Circuit Courts, with a focus on domestic violence cases. They also covered Drug Treatment Court and special litigation for transgender clients. Dee is currently a Staff Attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia where they represent all clients in the Superior Court Drug Intervention Program, challenging drug testing forensics. Throughout their career, Dee has authored articles and presented on the intersection of trans rights and the criminal legal system and consulted on cases with trans clients across the country.
